This is a silly problem, but I noticed that the vertical bar that says
"Windows XP Home" is now missing from my start menu. I don't know when it
happened but I know that I suddenly did abort the installation process of an
old MS Office program I had. Could I have lost some file in doing this?

Janet, all you have to do is rt click on Start>select Properties>click
Classic Start Menu.

I'm in Classic Start Mode. The vertical blue bar identifying what version
of windows I have is not there. It's just the start menu without the
vertical blue bar to the left. Any answers?

Janet, have you restarted the Computer since this happened. If not, try
it.

Janet,

Uncheck "Show Small Icons in Start Menu" entry in the Start Menu options.
