Start Menu and Task Bar can't update its properties.

I've installed Vista Business 32-bit on my machine. But, there was
once system hang, so I reboot by force. Then, my start menu and task
bar are something wrong badly.

When I click the start menu, no icons appears at all (even first two
default icons for web browser and mail client). Even I try to change
properties of start menu (to appear program icons on the start menu),
it fails, Properties can't be update.

This problem is also found in the taskbar. I can't change any
properties of task bar. It's always locked. Even though I do right
click on the taskbar and unselect 'Lock taskbar' item, the task bar
still remains in locked.

I think that I should reinstall Vista again. Any help? any reports on
such problems? I tried to reboot in safe mode, but it was same in the
safe mode.

ps) My VGA is nVidia GT7600, aero enabled, nVidia driver is installed.

Thank you,

Have you tried a system restore to before the problem occurred?

I'm afraid that I've turned off the restore feature. Well.. it's not a
big deal for reinstall since I've just installed Vista. Thanks!

Out of curiosity why did you turn it off? In XP sometimes SR got bunged up,
but that was usually a problem caused by allowing too much space for it, so
there there too many restore points, or 3rd party software interfering such
as from Symantec. Naturally we don't have enough history about the
functionality in Vista, but why turn off a potentially helpful recovery
process? Anyway good luck with the reinstall.

Also you might want to look into using the Complete PC backup to image the
system or get a 3rd party imaging program such as Acronis True Image 10
which works well on Vista, and save an image of the drive.

Newegg has ATI 10 on sale for $29.99 right now.
