start bar moving.

i am about to throw my laptop out the window! i caught the 'start' bar while
scroling yesterday and it has repositioned itself up the right hand side of
my screen. the start button at the top and i can't move it back, i have tried
everything except restore which i am not confident with.. any other ideas
out there??? please??? thanks.

First, note that it's called the *Task* Bar.

Although by default the task bar appears on the bottom of the screen,
it can be on any of the sides you prefer it on. To move it from any
side to another, simply click on an unused part of it and drag it
where you want it. Be sure to click *within* it, not on the edge;
clicking on the edge and dragging will resize it.

If it won't move, it may be locked. In that case, right click on it
and uncheck "Lock the taskbar," then try again.

thanks ken for answering so fast... unfortunately i had tried the click and
drag trick but to no avail... the task bar (thanks) is not locked, i have
tried the properties and the control pannel. i just can't get why the bar
moved so fast on the tail of a scroll and now nothing will replace it. i
tried the resizing but this only works on the side and not the top or
bottom... thanks for the help.

thanks brian... i have tried to drag the bar but it doesn't move at all. i
hold the left key down double click and all sorts but it just doesn't move..
i am on a lap top, would that make any difference?? is it worth trying this
process with a seperate mouse? thanks for help..

Try dragging by the "handle"--the little bar at the top of the Task
Bar.

i am answering my self as i have just solved the problem..... it was just a
fluke but this is what i did.... i got the double headed arrow on the edge
of the taskbar and made it as wide as it would go,(half the screen) then i
just idly flicked the double headed arrow back and forth in a mood and the
taskbar suddenly flicked to the top of the screen... in shock i tried the
same again and managed to get it back to the bottom. there has to be a simple
way but hopefully this will help if someone has the same problem.... thanks

There is a simple way. You click a blank spot in the "Running tasks"
area, between the Start button, and the Notification area. With a
Laptop, you click with the left button below the touchpad. While
depressing the button, drag the Taskbar to the bottom of the screen, and
then release the button.
