start animation after the end of the media

Hi,

I use PowerPoint 2003. I have slides with sound on them. The sound was
recorded using the "record narration" but I didn't save the timing of the
narration, just the sounds. I have an animation that I want to play after the
sound is done. More precisly, it's a red transparent square that covers all
the screen that I want to make disappear after the sound is read so that the
user can't act until he had heard the explanations. So I used the "start
after previous" fonction. My sound is up on the list and then there's my
animation that is supposed to start 0,5 seconds after the media. But what
happens is the the animation starts 0,5 seconds after the slide has begun, so
the sound doesn't have the time to play. I know I could use "start with
previous" and just set the time so the timing is good. But I have a lot of
those and it would be a lot easier if I could just use "start after previous"
and cut/paste this on all the slides I need it.

Thanks for your help.

Christine./

Hi Christine

Curious. I've done a bit of testing and it seems PowerPoint doesn't
recognise the narration as having any length. However, I managed to force it
to by extracting all the narration and then re-inserting it. To extract the
narration, save the ppt as a webpage (html) which will create a folder
containing all the sound files. You can then use insert -> movies and
sounds -> sound from file to put the sounds back (you will need to drag the
sound file animation to the top of the list if you have other animations on
the slide). You may be able to use VBA to do the re-insert, but I'm afraid
VBA is beyond my small brain :).

It is weird!

I managed to make it work by:

Change "stop playing" to "next click"
In Custom Animation Pane > "Remove

Add a new "play" animation

Thank you for your anwser John. I think it will save me some time...
I understand the part -change "stop playing" to "next click"-, but I don't
understand the part that follows. Can you explain ? What do I have to remove
in the Custom Animation Pane ? What is a new "play" animation ?

Sorry about that. Maybe it's a English to French problem ;-)

Go to the custom animation pane select the media animation that plays the
narration Click REMOVE to delete it and then select the speaker symbol and
Add Effect > Sound Animations > Play
