If I understand it correctly, memory is not saved when going into standby.
That makes me wonder if any changes made to an open document but no yet
saved are lost whenever the system goes into standby. I've set my time to
15 minutes but now and then when I am working on an Excel document I don't
do any thing for longer than that. Will whatever edits I have made but not
yet saved be lost?

Thank you very much.

No, Not at all. Standby just turn off the device to rest condition but not
completly. They remain ON but use less power and resources. All of them will
be back on the actual state if nothing wrong happens.

The only states that empty RAM are Shutdown and Hibernation. In the case of
Hibernation, the RAM is written to disk.

Standby could be considered Low Idle. Power is maintained to keep RAM
operational. The only worry would be if the PC crashed on returning to
life due to bad drivers or other hardware not powering back up properly
from standby. Since a crash/lockup will result in a forced reboot, then
your file changes would be lost.

Thank you to all who responded. The answers told me exactly what I wanted
to know and more.
