Standby- How to troubleshoot why my computer won't go standby?

My computer used to go standby after 30 minutes as
instructed. Now, it does not. The screen still turns off
after 10 minutes. I can manually choose SHUTDOWN/STANDBY
and it will properly go into standby mode. But, it refuses
to, on it's own, go into standby mode anymore. No new
software or hardware as been added. How do I troubleshoot
what might be causing the problem? Is their a tool that
can monitor the process activity and tell me that some
program is keeping the machine busy, so it won't go
standby? Frustrated.

Thanks,

Trino

Try running defragmenting the drive (if the drive is heavily defragmented,
it can stop it going into standby mode).

Also run a full checkdisk (perhaps do this when you've got a couple of hours
away from the computer, since it takes some time)........
Right-click c: in "My Computer" > Properties > Tools > (under error
checking) Check Now > (Tick both boxes to check on restart)....
