Standby doesn't highlight

Hi,
I am using Windows XP professional on compaq EVO 1000 NV laptop. The problem
is the laptop doesn't go to a standby mode. In the dialogue box where you
get standby, turn off and log off prompts, the standby button is
deactivated. Please help!!! Tried to go to power options in control panel,
doesn't have anything there to change the standby settings, not even in the
BIOS setup. Does it have anything to do with the hardware or is it just some
configuration that is required. Please help!!!!!!!

This is usually caused by a driver issue. Make sure your drivers are up to
date, especially for your graphics card and soundcard.

Michael is correct, Every time I've seen this, it was some software/drivers
that were added to the machine. I've even seen OEM mouse software prevent
it.

I would consider what drivers and software you have installed that 'talk to
the hardware' since you got the laptop. Especially things you downloaded
off manufacturers websites or install CDs. The problem has to do with the
offending driver not being 'power aware' and not written specifically for
laptop use. Also make sure you are running the latest BIOS for the laptop,
that got me one time.
