I am looking for a DOS command that can put the computer in standby
mode. I've noticed the shutdown command, and quite frankly I find it
ridiculous that it can shutdown and restart machines, but not put them
in standby mode. Is there some other command I am missing, or am I
out of luck?

Christopher:

DOS does not do it as far as I know.

DOS batch command files can be used to call up "freeware" utilities I
downloaded from the Internet to put the computer into standby, hibernation,
etc.

Utilities I downloaded includes Pwroff30, Winoff25, and "sleeper.exe". I set
them up directly as desktop shortcuts as well as in the "task scheduler" for
via automatic sceduled shutdowns, standby's or hibernation. You can do a
little "Googling" to find the WEBsites to download them.

I'm using Pwroff30 and Winoff25 on various PC's at home and at the office.
They hibernate my PC's on schedule 9:30PM for one, and 10:30 PM for the
others, or turn it off via the shortcut, pinned to the "start menu" You can
also use the standby options in these utilities.

DOS is good, expecially for backward compatibility, but is not designed to
do all these things.
