How can I standardize desktops on Windows 2000 machines. I
have a Windows 2000 Server. Is there any way to do this than creating
roaming profile?. If I have to use GPO, how do I have same icons on
all desktops? Your help is appreciated.

I usually do this like so:
- Create a new account on the PC.
- Create a standard desktop environment.
- Set IE6, MS Office & Outlook Express the way I want it.
- Set all other things the way I want them (screen saver, small
icons in Start Menu etc. etc.).
- Reboot & log on under an admin account.
- Rename the standard profile folder to "Default User".
- Set appropriate NTFS permissions for the "Default User" profile folder.

Every new user logging on to this PC will now inherit the standard
profile. Users who already have a profile on this PC are not affected.

Great idea. Thanks. But if you have a large environment
how will you do it? Can you deploy this to individual work
stations from the server?

Do you know how to standardize desktops in a large
environment.
Thanks for your help.
