Stand-alone root CA

Hi

Is secure to use a Stand-Alone root CA to create a certificate for OWA 5.5
and ISA 2000 security? ... I'm not allowed to create a Enterprise CA on my
site.

By the way, I've created a request for a certificate on a Stand-Alone CA but
I'm not able to process this request. Each time that I try to do it, W2K
tells me that this certificate is being used for another server ...

Welcome any idea

Thanks

Hi Sean,

What do you mean by secure to use? Among other thing that influence the
security on issued certificates is how secure is the computer that issues
certificates (in your case standalone root CA server)...

In most cases the request should be created on the end server itself not on
CA. Once you have the request created transfer the file (e.g. floppy, USB)
or use CA web interface (if your CA is on-line) to sign the request... After
the request is signed finish the process on the end server itself...

Hi Miha

My Certificate request is still pending on the Stand-alone CA. How long
should I wait to get this request processed?

Sean,

You will have to manually issue the certificate. Open Certificate Authority
MMC and click on Pending Requests and in the right pane click on the
certificate. Select Issue...

http://freeweb.siol.net/mpihler/issue-pending.jpg (Screen shot is from
Windows 2003 CA).

After you issue the certificate go back on the web page and download the
certificate that was issued. Transfer it to the PC and finish the
certificate installation process...
