Stall at shut down...

Travis King

Sometimes when I go to shut down my computer, and I click on turn off, the
computer just sits there and does nothing. (it doesn't shut down any of the
programs in the taskbar, etc.) It only does this some of the time, and
unfortunately, this problem appears to be random because at least I haven't
seen anything I was doing that would always cause the computer to stall when
shutting down. This will probably make it difficult to diagnose, but any
'idears'. Here are my running processes as I type this...
WINWORD.EXE
svchost.exe
alg.exe
EM_EXEC.EXE
SmartBarXP.exe (A Windows Vista-like sidebar)
adsgone.exe
jusched.exe
CTHELPER.EXE
ccApp.exe
GhostStartTrayApp.exe
NAVAPSVC.EXE
explorer.exe
sbmthread.exe
msimn.exe
taskmgr.exe (task manager)
SymWSC.exe
MsPMSPSv.exe
OUTLOOK.EXE
wdfmgr.exe
svchost.exe
CCEVTMGR.EXE
spoolsv.exe
ctfmon.exe
wbload.exe

csrss.exe
GHOSTS~2.EXE
smss.exe
CTSVCCDA.EXE
RioMSC.exe
nvsvc32.exe
NPROTECT.EXE

System Idle Process*

Of course, I close all open applications before shutting down. Thanks.

Hey, where did you find my PC configuration!

Besides that. The majority of the problems seems to occur with Norton
AntiVirus (which I also have.) It has been known that 'ccApp.exe' causes
most of the problem in slowdowns, at Shutdown and elsewhere. The only way
to solve this is to completely un-install NAV and to run the Norton
uninstall cleaner that you should download from www.symantec.com.

To the last person asking how I found their PC configuration - I guess we
have the same tastes. lol. Anyway, I'll take ALL of these into
consideration, but I do run disk cleanup regularly. (Almost daily in fact.)
Also defragmented a few days ago, and I always do it somewhat thoroughly by
defragmenting the disk several times, but I think Norton's utility does a
better job, however, I usually use the Windows Disk Defragmenter. I also
purge Norton Protected Files often when I know I will not be needing the
file(s) ever again. Also check for spyware and update often using Spybot
S&D and Adaware. Thanks again.

Oh, I also often see ccApp.exe show up saying it is no longer responding
when I go to shut down my computer. I see this on a lot of computers I've
used also.
