svchost.exe Application Error

S

Shaun Day

Whenever I open Mycomputer windows explorer searches for items for
about 20 secs then I get an error message -

svchost.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x00ab6f9a" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memeory could not be "written".

After clicking on the error message my drives appear.

Typing in an address in Internet explorer (rather than using
favorites) produces the same result.

I am using Windows XP SP2. I have my firewall on and have scanned my
computer with Nortons Antivirus 2004 latest definitions with no virus
or worms reported.

If I open windows explorer with just my C:\ drive as the target it
opens straight away.

Tasklist produced the following lists.

I have almost the exact same scenario and I have the same problem now. Does
anyone know a fix to this problem? I have played with different DEP setting
regarding the generic host process but nothing that I have done to date seems
to help this problem. I am in a constant loop right now. Please help!!!'
