CPUID recognizes that my processor supports MMX(+), 3D Now(+), SSE
Neither Silverlight nor a Directx update will install. I get errors that
tell me that my CPU does not support SSE. Which is wrong? CPUID or Windows? I
have heard that a repair install will recognize SSE support. I don't want to
perform a repair install as my only copy of XP is the original version and it
warns that installing an old version on top of a new one is bad. It seems
like there should be some way to tell my XP to recognize the SSE support of
my processor.
Help?
thanks!

Well, you're starting to admit to what kind of processor it is
If a processor has 3DNow, it is AMD. Intel is the one promoting
SSE. For an AMD processor to have a complete set of the
SSE instructions sets, you need a very recent processor to
get most of them. Some of the previous AMD processors (the
older ones), have very little SSE support.
So what the software is reporting, as the capabilities of your
processor, might actually be correct and factual.
If you know the exact model number of AMD processor,
why not give Wikipedia a try, and see if it lists
what that particular processor supports ?
