SQL Server -vs- MySQL

I'm considering porting some code that originated in MySQL. Current
code is unmanaged, but I may port to .NET. I'm not that familiar with
MySQL at this point, so I'd like to determine whether to stay with
MySQL (presuming there is an interface to ADO or ADO.NET ...is
there?) or to go with more familiar SQL Server using MSDE in the
distrib.

I'm more comfortable with SQL Server/MSDE, especially given the
extensive interface to ADO/ADO.NET. I'm curious about why MySQL is so
popular, especially given that MSDE is free.

Quite distasteful whoever it was.

You are unbelievable. For the 100th time, I never flamed you Cor - ever,
UNTIL this time when you went off on me. But look at Sceppa's response.
Read it, then read it again. He's polite and he explains why they'd find
help somewhere else. if you did that, there would never be any confusion but
you don't. This is your response "This is in my opinion no question for a
Microsoft newsgroup.
" and if you can't see the difference between the two, then you really have
major issues. I keep asking you Cor - where have I ever flamed you until
this time, AFTER you went off on me? There isn't one example yet you keep
saying it over and over again. You do understand what a FLAME is don't you?
It's not a disagreement Cor - it's when you are rude about it. A Message
and a Flame are two different things and if you think you're so special that
no one is allowed to give you a message about a legitimate disagreement then
you are a total hypocrite. But Cor - seriously man, what was the first thing
you can Frans ever fought about? Frans answered a question correctly after
you answered it incorrectly. Then you hopped on him. Then you decided that
you were goign to end CrossPosting and multiposting and again, pissed a lot
of people off. Then you went after top posting. Then relevance. You accuse
me and Frans of being 'moderators', but look at who is constantly telling
other people how to post. And in your mind, you've done nothing wrong ever
here huh? You blow up at me even though I bent over backwards to be polite
to you, and I'm the one that's wrong. That's why I got sick of your crap
and unfortunately I blew up. I'm not going to make you realize that you can
be a real jerk b/c you are in serious denial about it - you'll learn though.
We all do.

Peter - I would apologise for any mistake in personality. I did in no way
attempt to confuse ourselves. From the name similiarity they may have came
to that conclusion but otherwise I do not know why they did. Currently I
live in Charlotte as I have for the past 4 years and do not use the same
email as you or anything else. For the confusion, I am sorry. Normally
too, I just read newsgroups to learn, I have seldom posted but I will ensure
that I change the name handle I use to avoid any confusion if I post again
in the future.

Cor I have seen your post and am most curious. I am most certainly NOT the
same person you think of. When you mentioned students I was unsure why you
mentioned it and now I believe I now why - because you confused me with
someone else. We are not the same person in any way and I did not try to be
him. I did not understand your post enough to realise that you were
confusing me with another person or that there was one. I am surprised
because when I look now, I see many posts by the other person but I was not
aware of him before this. So theres no confusion, i am living in the US for
the last 4 years and work for a popular company that operates also in the
US. For any confusion to the other person, I do apologise to him.

No worries.
Peter, I certainly wouldn't go to the trouble of changing anything. I'm sure
this isolated incident will "simmer down" and soon be forgotten. I'm well
aware that you were not trying to impersonate me.

Good info on SQL Server vs. MySQL with a little West side story thrown
in. Thanks for the info. EntertainmentValue++

ROFL!

Developers, developers, developers, developers...

Well, it has definitely been an entertaining/enlightening thread to
skim. I think I'll stick to the MSSQL ones though (maybe Joe Celko &
Cor Lightert should get together & have a beer some time - I hear the
Dutch make a few decent beers).

;-)

(And to think I used to call myself a developer...<blush>).

I appreciate what you are saying. However, this has been an ongoing
problem and as like in most families the problem had to be dealt with
eventually. When this guy (he has come down on me several times as well
but I am not on the level of skill in programming so I generally keep my
tone down) comes after Bill Ryan et all and in light of their
contributions over the years I would say you should expect a firestorm.
I personally am just completely floored that he went after the people he
did here.

"I thought that everybody was free to post to a UseNet newsgroup"

An ironic statement, don't you think, considering your response to the
original poster?
