SQL 2008 Shared Database

Brad Covell

We are using a SQL Enterprise 2005 shared database with 4 users. Each user has SQL 2005 Express installed (the version that installs with BCM). We would like to upgrade the shared database to SQL 2008. Is this supported?

Do the users need to update to 2008 Express or can they continue to use 2005?

Thanks
Brad

Technically it should work - BCM tends to use simple SQL which doesn't
change between sql releases.

However, Sql keeps uping the security, so you may need to tweak the
database's security settings after upgrading.

Yes / no. We have never tested BCM 2007 with SQL Server 2008. It probably
should work as Luther has stated, but I cannot make any guarentee to you that
your daily operations will not get interrupted.

Before doing anything, please backup or export all of your data to be safe.
Tweaks / security and permission changes are almost certainly a requirement
on your side if you decide to make the move.

Thanks for the information. Based on what you described and some of our
users already being wary of continuing with BCM, I think we will wait.

Thank you, Bard, for getting back to me and letting me know of your decision.
If there is anything else that we can do, please don't hesitate to post it
here.
