Spyware taken over all search engines

A

Amy

It seems like a spyware "http://results.searchscout.com"
has attached itself to my system. Whenever I try to do a
search in with any search engines (Ask, Google,
etc.), "results.searchscout.com" takes over.

How can I get rid of it and have freedom of using whatever
search engine I want.

Help!

You may have been hijacked.

Follow these instructions:
Go to:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location: Spyware and Hijackware Removal Support.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/index.php?s=8a236cdf61469fbad3bddbe810be0374&act=SF&f=11

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.

See Microsoft's KB articles at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;187888
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;171853

My current registry settings for IE6 under Windows 2000 are:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Search Bar = http://home.microsoft.com/search/lobby/search.asp

Seach Page = http://home.microsoft.com/access/allinone.asp

You might want to use SpywareGuard to prevent hijacking of IE without
your permission. It's free.

You might want to head over to Tucows (www.tucows.com)
and download a freeware program called Ad-Aware. It
scans your memory and disk drives for spyware, and can
be configured to run as part of your startup. I've used
it for a couple of years and haven't had any problems
with spyware.
