I get mixed opinions. To run spybot s&d, adaware and cws
shredder, not to mention hijack this, do these need to be
run in Safe mode or regular?

Either way.

S&D is very good well but you need an app that also blocks the bad sites from
an extensive list of definitions like spyware guard, spyware blaster, along
with s&d nothing will get through this combination as spyware guard is an
active shield and it is allways better to have a layered defense and the
above is the best combination "believe me I have tried them all" By the way
s&d is designed to work with the other javacool software and its all
free/donationware here is the :http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/index.html

That is not true. Things can get through. No software can prevent crapware
being installed if the user clicks YES to the wrong thing or does not read
the EULA when installing software.

I agree that it's wise to run multiple anti-spyware products, but
no matter what your combination, it's never true that "nothing
will get through this combination." There is always risk. Realize
that even if your combination were *perfect* today (and it's
certainly not), tomorrow there would be new threats that it
didn't protect against. The anti-spyware software may be updated
to protect against these new threats, but not until they were out
in the world and infecting people's computers.

For that reason, one should never simply rely on anti-virus
programs, anti-spyware programs, and firewalls. It's still
necessary to practice safe computing habits.
