I have Windows XP Home Edition on my laptop and was infected with Spyware. I
have tried removing with the Microsoft AntiSpyware and Spybot etc, but the
problem persists. The problems faced are like internet explorer suddenly
comes up with changed home page or when I try to open Windows explorer or
control panel - I get an MSVC runtime error. I also keep getting the Windows
Security Error #317 saying that my compute is infected with Spyware even
after scan and removal using the tools that I have mentioned. Please let me
know if there is anything else that can be done

Kelly,

Thanks for the reply. Will try out the tools mentioned. Is the Explorer not
opening because of the MSVC Runtime Error also related to the same issue ?

Siva

Hi,
I have tried the anitspyware softwares specified but still the problem
with the IE suddenly opening up with the hotoffers as home page exists. Also
the problem with the Windows Explorer opening with a run-time error exists.

The Ad-Aware cleaned up a lot of files but during the next scan - the same
infected objects appear. Not sure if its actually cleaning it up.

Please advice.

In addition to Kellys advice.

Try to run Ad-Aware in safe mode, this prevents some of the spyware -
adware programs from running and makes it easier for ad-aware to
remove them.

Just for the tough ones you're up against.

Regards Leif.

I spent about six months going crazy with my IE page changing to about blank
etc and having to click sixty times to get rid of trojans etc. One day about
a month ago my servece provider (BT Broadband) advised me to download Mozilla
Firefox. All I can say it is brilliant. I can do everything with no
hasstle-beats internet explorer hands down. I have not used IE since. Try it!!

Thanks to all for replying - I seem to have to got rid of the problem of IE
Home page changes. I will try installing and using the Mozilla instead of IE.
But there is still the problem of "Windows Explorer" opening with a MSVC
Run-time error and WIndows Media Player not opening and gives a message "
There is some internal Error". Any ideas on how these problems can be sorted
out. Thanks for any help.
