Spyware Defender CPU bug: maxes out SVChost.exe @ reboot

CPU bug: After recently installing Spyware Defender, @ reboot the CPU usage
maxes out and receive a Windows Defender popup.

The message says "An Application Registry Change was made for Windows
Defender Spyware\MpCmdrun.exe. "

Then the CPU is maxed out for 5-10 minutes including 70% usage by
SVChost.exe then independently releases SVChost.exe and resumes normal CPU
usage after 5-10 minutes.

Can anyone help out with this problem?

Nope, sorry Tom. That does not do the trick.

Still getting maxed out on CPU for ~ 10 minutes & MpCmdrun.exe message.

I updated this message with changing the notice to "An Application
Registration Change was made ...", originally I noted it as "Registry" change
which was not correct.

Any other ideas?

BTW: I am running the latest version of Windows Defender, Windows XP Home
(with all updates), Windows XP Firewall, Office 2003 (w/SP2 & all updates),
AVG antivirus (up to date & no viruses), and SpyBot S & D (up to date & no
spyware).

Hi Missey,

is theatimer (realtime protection of SS & D) running?
Put it off and look what is happening.
2 Realtime for the same can give trouble.

Nope again. I don't use Tea Time/Real Time on SpyBot.

I ended up reloading XP and uninstalling Defender, it was just too big of a
PITA.

I can't be bothered with another UNSUPPORTED MS BETA PRODUCT. I will wait
until it is released, then decide if i want to run it.

Thanks anyway Tom!

Too bad, the MpCmdRun.exe was a setting in Defender you needed to turn-off.

Someone should have mentioned to you to check your Event Viewer log, and
check if you had and Service Control Manager errors/warnings.
Always, remember to check the Event Viewer log.

Yes, i did look at the Event Viewer log, and I was getting Service Control
Manager wanrnings/errors but had no clue how to fix the problem. Please
detail what needs to be done to turn off MpCmdRun.exe, other people can
benefit from your detailed response.

Thanks
