Hi
How can I stop Spybot from loading, I am trying to up date a driver for my printer and it pops up
stopping the update until until I click ok. When I finished the computer had rebooted twice and the
printer will only print part of a page. So I have to reinstall the driver, but I don't want spybot
running when I do. Just clicking end program don't work because when the computer reboots, spybot
opens and screws it up before I can stop it from running.
Win XP, HP Photosmart 7960.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daj

It should have an option to "Load at Startup" in the menu/options. Disable
this.
I use AdAware, so I don't know where (if) this option would be located.
If you can't find it, the easiest thing to do would be to uninstall Spybot
and then
reinstall after you finish with your printer problems.

If not see if it's on the startup list...

Start -> run -> type "msconfig" without the quotes and Enter key

On the new window that opens look at the startup tab.

Spybot - S & D | Tools | Resident | UNCheck:
Resident "SDHelper" and/or Resident "TeaTimer"

[[Resident Tools
Resident is a permanently running application to protect your system.
Currently, it consists of a browser helper for Internet Explorer that
will block download of files known as malicious (spyware installers for
example).

This page inside Spybot-S&D allows you to install/uninstall this helper
as well as view the report which pages it has blocked (that should only
appear if the first layer of protection, the main IE immunity, didn't
stop the culprit).]]

[[What is the Resident TeaTimer?
The Resident TeaTimer is a new tool of Spybot-S&D which perpetually
monitors the processes called/initiated. It immediately detects known
malicious processes wanting to start and terminates them giving you some
options how to deal with this process in the future:
You can setTeaTimer to:

- be informed, when the process tries to start again
- automatically kill the process
- or generally allow the process to run There is also an option to
delete the file associated with this process.

In addition, TeaTimer detects, when something wants to change some
critical registry keys. TeaTimer can protect you against such changes
again giving you an option: You can either "Allow" or "Deny" the change.
As TeaTimer is always running in the background, it takes some resources
of about 5 MB.]]

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For S&D v1.3:
Settings/Settings/System Startup
UnCheck "Automatically Run Program on System StartUp".
