I have gotten several pop ups over the last 2 to 3 weeks
stating they have detected spy ware on my pc. the pop up
seems to be coming from Microsoft but I am not sure it is
directing me to a sight to download something to remove
this from my pc,Can you let me know if this is real ??
thank you in advance for your kind attention in this

Pat;
They are NOT from Microsoft.
See #5 & #6 onn this link:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/Slowcom.htm

Also:
For Messenger Service ads:
You need to install or enable a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330904
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp
Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve
the real problem.
The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom.
The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.
Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports.
The firewall controls the traffic.

Internet Connection Firewall will not work if you have AOL.
AOL is not compatible with Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
(ICF)
If you have AOL, you should contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party
firewall:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/npf/

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts

Spyware may be your problem.
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:

Or

For internet pop-ups, try one of these:

Well, first... It is not microsoft. They are simply ads
that are directing you to a site claiming to rid you of
spyware. I have used a product called spywarenuker that
seems to work although one time I installed a product
called pchunter that found a registry modification that
spywarenuker did not.

There are other products like adaware, etc that work
also. One thing for sure... Spyware is annoying and those
involved in the creation of it should be punished severly.

I mean if I knowingly accept something... that's one
thing but to installed programs without my knowledge,
benefit or permission is like an intruder coming into my
home.

Anywho... best of luck.
