Spurious styles being created in master document.

C

Cogent

My styles are being renamed in a master document, even
though I don't make any changes. For example, "footnote
Text" has become "Footnote text, footnotetext, char, char,
char, char, char....."

This is happening to other styles as well. I've tried
importing styles from another template and deleting the
unwanted styles, but the importwed syles also become
corrupted.

I'd be grateful for any pointers.

Hi Cogent

Two pointers:

1. I assume you're using Word 2002, and I assume you have not installed SP-1 and SP-1. Those service packs get rid of the char char
char problem. Use the Office Update system at http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx to work out what updates you
need.

2. You might like to reconsider your use of Master Documents after reading the following:
Why Master Documents corrupt
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/WhyMasterDocsCorrupt.htm
and
How to recover a Master Document
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/RecoverMasterDocs.htm

Hope this helps.
