Spurious E-Mail Addresses

I am using Outlook 2002 sp3.

When I fill in the address in a new mail message a drop-down list appears
after typing in a few characters. The elements in the drop-down list all
reflect the completion of the name which I start to type.

The problem is:

Each these selections gives a different e-mail address, none of which is
the in the Contacts folder.

Strangely the e-mail addresses that result from a selection from the
drop-down list are e-mail addresses which are no longer current -- some of
them are as much as five years old!

Moreover, none of the addresses appear in either the Shared Contacts or the
Main Identity folders in Outlook Express.

I have absolutely no idea where these addresses are found but I would sure
like to get rid of them -- they are incredibly annoying.

Can someone please help with this?

Start typing an address, then when a list is presented, use the cursor keys to
highlight the one you want to get rid of and press the delete key. Make sure
you use the keyboard to move to the address and not the mouse. It works for
me.

Tom, thanks. It works for me too.

In the spirit of "no good deed goes unpunished":

I would still like to know if there is somewhere where I can delete all of
these things rather than doing it one at a time (a rather painful process).
