Sporadic MessageBox appearing suddenly

Hi,

I keep getting this MessageBox to pop-up sporadically. despite the
fact that all my Windows Explorer instances are focused on legitimate
directories:

Caption: Windows - No Disk
Text: There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the
drive.
Buttons: Cancel, Try Again, Continue

Incidentally, consecutive clicks of Cancel (4 clicks) or Continue (2)
dismisses the MessageBox with no adverse effects, so far as I can
tell.

It started in the past week of so. The most recent change I've made
to my system is the installation of a test version of System Mechanic
7 about three weeks ago. I'm prepared to uninstall it, but I want to
see if anyone has some other recommendation.

I'm running WinXP-Pro/SP2 up-to-date with Windows Update and protected
with AVG-Free and PrevX.

Regards,
Richard

I'm getting the same message. It started after installing System Mechanic 7
and seems to happen every time SM does a periodic automatic scan. It does not
happen when I do a manual scan, but reliably happens during the automatic
scan. I have not found a setting to disable the auto scan and I've not
received a response from an email sent to Iolo tech support over a week ago.

You could ditch "System Mechanic" before something important gets
broken. Perhaps the "autoscan" is trying to scan the floppy drive.

Hey Jerry and Bob,

Thanks for your responses.

Jerry: Bob's idea can easily be tested and, if proved correct, might
allow you to continue to use System Mechanic comfortably.

Bob: Great suggestion. That was enough for me to conclude that
uninstalling SM was the best way to go. I didn't care whether
sticking a floppy in the drive would keep SM quiet.

Best wishes,
Richard

hi richard i am currently experiencing the same problem but have not
recently installed any programs i also get \device\hardisk1\dr2. i have yet
to hear back from anyon, but this problem only happened a few hours ago!

Thanks to both for your responses. I don't want to uninstall SM yet so I
tried leaving a floppy in the drive - still got the message. Then I tried
leaving a CD in that drive, still got the message. I had previously left a
media card in the card reader on my printer - still got the message. The only
thing left is to try leaving a disk in the zip drive (when I can find one).
The odd thing is that System Mechanic does not do this on my laptop, only on
the desktop machine. It could also be that SM is fighting with Norton.

You're welcome, have a good day.

Hi KP77,

I uninstalled IOLO System Mechanic 7 a couple of days ago. Problem
gone!!

I'm not going to trust a buggy program to "clean up" my registry,
etc. I also didn't like that it didn't tell me the nature of alleged
problems they detected, the "fix" they proposed to apply, nor my
permission to apply the fix.

I'm happy to just continue with my current security configuration.

Best wishes,
Richard
