Spoolsv.exe process issue

When we boot up our computer, the spoolsv.exe process is at 99% and will not
relinquish. Nothing else is running, and nothing has been printed or sent to
the printer. A reboot fails to resolve the issue; only killing the process
resolves the issue, but if want to print then that is not a viable option for
resolution.

Thanks for your assistance!

Verify that there is not a resident job that attempts to print when the
spooler restarts.

The default spool directory is \windows\system32\spool\printers. Delete any
*.spl and *.shd files from this location then restart the service.

If you want to know which printer the job is for open the shd file in
notepad before deleting. I have seen the high CPU when a job was improperly
sent to the Document Writer printer that gets installed with Office.

Alan, thanks for the reply. After I posted the question, I read through some
of the other postings. Ultimately, I downloaded and ran cleanspl.exe and it
resolved the issue.
