Three computers at home running XP Pro (fully patched) on a Linksys wireless G network. Ran the "Set up a home or
small office network" wizard from My Network Places. Two of the three systems executed without a hitch. They see eac
other and the shares work well. The third system got the end of the wizard where it is acting on the various inputs to th
wizard and craps out. The following error message in displayed..."Spooler SubSystem App has entcountered a problem and needs to close"

The workgroup changes but I get a message about inappropriate domain permissions when I attempt to see the othe
systems in the "View workgroup computers" in My Network Places

I've tried changing the Workgroup name to something else and then back restarting with each change to no avail. I also used the "Add netowrk place" wizzard to establish that the system is not part of a domain

Any ideas?

Also need to add that ICS is disabled and "use simple file sharing" is de-selected

Thanks...........

Greetings price,

1. Did you attempt to run with wizard with ICF enabled? That is the Windows
XP Internet Connection Firewall.

2. Did the Wizard create a bridge?

3. Do you have a printer installed on the machine you ran the Network
Wizard? The reason why I ask because most spooler errors are to referred to
a printer. Even though your printer may be functional, try uninstalling the
Printer and try running the Network Wizard again.

Here is a similar article here. Please see this article first.

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=810894

If that doesn't work, try stopping the spooler service before you run the
Network Wizard. Here's what you do.

1. Open a command prompt window.

2. Stop the spooler service - type "net stop spooler"
(without quotes) and hit the ENTER key.

3. Then setup the network. After you finish then you can restart the
service. You can restart the spooler service by typing "net start spooler"
(without quotes) or rebooting the machine.

Please post back with results.

I received the same error this evening setting up two new
computers using XP Home. I installed HP Software for a
network printer and had configured the IP settings on the
workstation with a static address. After reviewing the
other notes posted regarding this same error, this is
what I needed to do in order to have the networking
complete correctly:

1 - Uninstall the software used for the network printer
2 - Disabled the "Printer Spooler" in the services area
3 - Disable the network adapter in device settings and
then uninstalled it (make sure you note where all the
drivers are located, although XP should find them)
4 - Restarted the workstation. Upon restart Windows
reinstalls the network adapter.
5 - Ran the networking wizard
6 - Enable the "Printer Spooler" and restarted the service
7 - Restarted the workstation
8 - Reinstalled the network printer software and
restarted the workstation
9 - Re-entered the static IP address information

There are probably too many workstation restarts, but
after doing changes to the networking I wanted to be
safe...good luck.
