Spooler error 7031

J

Jay J.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any information on a
problem I am having with a print server. I kept getting
an error 7031 in the system event log and the spooler
service would stop. I called MS on Friday and they sent
me a patch to fix the problem. I ran the patch early
Friday morning and today (Monday) I came back in and the
service stopped again with the same 7031 event ID. So the
hotfix did not work for me. I was wondering if anyone
knows anything I can do to fix this problem. Thanks.

This is an RPC error, a service that the spooler depends on. Read through
the KB and confirm the binary dates for the files listed (in
windows\system32). You have to reboot for this update to be in affect.

My files are as follows on version:

ole32.dll - 5.0.2195.6810
rpcrt4.dll - 5.0.2195.6802
rpcss.dll - 5.0.2195.6810

All 3 files dates are Aug. 23, 2003. So it looks like I
am at versions that should be ok according to the
knowledge base article. I have not had a spooler shutdown
now in 2 days, but it did stop 2 days after applying the
patch from MS. So I am going to monitor it and see if it
keeps shutting down.
