Since I've replaced my 2.4Ghz CPU with a new 3.2GHz CPU my system has become
unstable.
First, I had overheating problem:
- idle temp was 55-60 °C
- during a game it was at 80° C but reaching 85°C
I got graphical errors, BIOS beeped and if I didn't quit the game it would
crash and the PC would reboot.
I flashed my mainboard succesfully to latest BIOS version, but that didn't
make a difference, the problem persisted.
Went back to the store, where they replaced the cooling compound and now the
idle temp is 49 °C and during a game it's 60-65 °C.
I can play longer now, no more graphical distortions or BIOS beeps, but
after approx. 20 minutes of gaming the system just reboots spontaneous
without any warning.
After this I get the very informative message "Windows has recovered from a
serious error."
- Is it necessary to reinstall Windows or programs or games after swapping
your CPU?? I've been told that this was not necessary at all...so I didn't do
that.
- Does a Prescott 3.2GHz require more power/voltage from the PSU then my
previous 2.4GHz? (Because I've still a 300W PSU for 3x HDD's, 3x optical
drives, 1x NIC, 1x soundcard, USB keyboard+mouse,...)
- Is this solely a heating issue or is the PSU related?
My system:
P4 3.2GHz (478 socket)
Abit IC7 mainboard
1GB Corsair RAM
3x HDD
3x Optical drives
1x NIC
1x Soundcard
USB mouse+keyboard
Any suggestions are welcome
