Splitting and Merging Clips

For some odd reason, I can't split/merge etc clips in my
container (collection). Although I select the clip to
split, the command is greyed out!

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. (Please e-mail me
your response.)

Have you played the clip to the position where you wish to split? The split
button splits at the current played position, so if you're at the beginning
of the clip it will be greyed out as you can't split at the beginning.
