Splitting A Drive?

H

Henry

Hi,
I have a Dell Dim.8200 with XP SP2:
My present system drive is C:\ 20 Gig
My second non system drive is D:\ 40 Gig
My DVD & CD-RW dirves are E:\ & F:\ resp.

My question to the expert is:
Can I split my D:\ drive into 2 non system drives? e.g into D:\ & G:\ ?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Yes, as long as no system files are located on the D:\ drive and you don't
mind losing all the data, you can use Disk Management from Computer
Management [right click My Computer and select Manage] to "Partition" and
format the drive.
If you have system files or data you want to keep, you will need third party
partitioning software.

You can - but either have to delete it and restore all the files on it,
or to use third party software to shrink it as far as may be and make a
new partition in the remaining space. Two possibilities are Partition
Magic 8 - computer stores, fairly expensive, or BootIT NG, from
http://www.BootitNG.com ($35 shareware - 30 day full functional trial)
