spellcheck in Outlook only works periodically, how do i fix this?

the automatic spellchecker has stopped working in Outlook. No setup options
have changed, how can I fix this?

No, F7 does not work, it brings up a message that says that the items marked
for exclusion were not checked. Not sure how I marked anything as it was a
new message!
