Everytime I use i.e. in an email Outlook questions the i. even though i.e. is
in the dictionary. This does not seem to be a problem with similar
abbreviations such as e.g. Has anyone had similar experience and is there a
work around?

Workaround? Add it to your dictionary.

But, on the other hand, I can't reproduce this. What version of Outlook are
you using? If you paste the same sentence into Word, does it have a problem
as well? The only way I get Outlook to have a problem with i.e. is if I put
in a space, to make it i. e.

As I stated in my post, i.e. IS in my dictionary. In fact it comes up as a
replacement choice in the list of suggestions. I'm using Outlook 2003, sp2.
The spell checker hilights the i and suggests I. If I click ignore it then
skips over the .e. Very strange. No such problem im word, etc.
