spell checker does nothing

I have a Word document in which the spell checker does nothing.
No word are marked, and when I click Tools->Spelling and Grammar,
it just pops up a window saying "The spell check is complete".
Thus, I have no way of turning it on as suggested in the Word Help pages.
I have had other documents that acted this way, and it is really frustrating.

In the past I have cut and past text into a new document and it worked,
but when I do that, it does not work on this particular text and/or document.

Please help.

Thanks.

Try clicking on Tools | Options | Spelling & Grammar | Check
Document. If spell check still doesn't work, then press Ctrl+A
to select all of the text, click on Tools | Language | Set
Language | <choose your language> | uncheck the "Detect language
automatically" and "Do not check spelling or grammar" boxes |
Default | OK, and press F7 to rerun spelling and grammar checks.

Assuming the proofing tools are installed, and provided that you *select all
the text* before choosing the language and clearing the "Do not check
spelling or grammar" check box, it should work.
