I have installed xp-home edition. I would like to know
how do i call up "spell check?"

Spell-checking is a feature for word processing programs, and as far as I
know is not an integral part of Windows XP. Are you using Word or another
application?

What do you want to spell check? The desktop? My icon names are all
spelled correctly.

Are you referring to spell check in a specific product like Word or Works or
Excel?

Neither Windows XP, nor any other version of Windows, has ever
come with a Spell Checking facility. Outlook Express uses the
spell checker that comes with Microsoft Word, (or another
Microsoft Office program) if you have it installed.

If you don't have Word or Office installed, you probably don't
have a spell checker. However there are several downloadable
freeware/shareware alternative spell checkers that work with
Outlook Express and Outlook. Since I have no personal experience
with any of these, I'll let someone else recommend one.

On the other hand, if a Microsoft Office component *is*
installed, try the instructions at

Windows XP Home and Pro do not come with a spell checker. You must
have a program installed that includes a spell checker. For example,
MS Office or MS Word, if installed, will provide spell checking for
Outlook Express E-Mail and Newsgroups.

Greetings --

Are you using a word processing application that provides a
spell-checking feature? WinXP is an operating system, so it naturally
has no such capability.
