I just put windows xp on my computer and when I went to
send out an email, I found out that my spell check will
not work without a microsoft word or excel or powerpoint
program, so my question is will microsoft works 6.0 with
word processor give me a spell check in outlook express??

I have found this to be the easiest solution to spell checking
problems in OE. No need to edit the registry, rename and
move dlls, or search websites for solutions. Either of these
will work whether or not MS Word or Office programs are
installed. Either one is a small download, installation couldn't
be any easier, they work perfectly, and they are free:

No, I'm afraid not.

Outlook Express, as you've discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
other Microsoft applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the
Works _Suite_ (which includes Word, not the regular Works). There are
also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware solutions available at any of
the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:
