After I installed office 2007 outlook express spell checks in French and
there is no option for english. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it. Word
& Excel are set to spell check in English.

"Outlook Express is not part of Office or Word..."

Nneed to be condensending...but the link was excellent and I solved the
problem with an install of an old dictionary from Office XP.

Wasn't trying to be whatever you said. It was a meant as a hint that
your question is off-topic in this Microsoft Word newsgroup.

Have the same problem as johnw, the thing is that if you don't have Microsoft
Word you don't have a spellcheck in Outlook Express! and it is bizarre that
it is in French. However, I shall now try the pschmid.net etc. for help
(sounds German)

By the way, when using "Help" it suggests and I quote:

Other places to look for "Outlook Express +French": Get answers from other
Office users

and when you click on that you get to this community.

Same as above. New installation of Office Pro 2007 over 2003. I never used
nor opened OE, so can't say what dictionary it uses. The first Word document
I opened in spell check, 2007 said a dictionary was not installed, asked to
install dictionary. I clicked OK. It was French. Tried installing the 2003
English dictionary as suggested here to no avail. Other suggestions?
Thanks.

No, the issue with spell check in Outlook Express being French only has to
do with the fact that Office 2007 doesn't make its proofing tools available
to OE. This is irrelevant to any spelling/language problems in Office 2007
itself. You need to run a repair installation and make sure you install the
proofing tools for all languages (or at least for English). Then make sure
that the appropriate flavor of English is selected as the default language
in both Word and Windows and that "Detect language automatically" is not
enabled.
