spell check in Outlook express

My spell check in outlook express does not work.
It is blanked out. Any help would be appricated.
Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6.0. I just bought this
computer. Pent 4, 2.6,512ram,hyperthreading.

I think you will need to install word or office to get spell check function
in OE.

Outlook Express does not have a spell check. That feature is only available
when you install a word processor like Word. Then Outlook Express will
"share" the spell check function.

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you've just discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
certain specific other Microsoft applications, such as the Office
Suite, Word, or the Works _Suite_ (which includes Word, not the
regular Works). There are also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware
solutions available at any of the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:

Neither Windows XP, nor any other version of Windows, has ever
come with a Spell Checking facility. Outlook Express uses the
spell checker that comes with Microsoft Word, (or another
Microsoft Office program) if you have it installed.

If you don't have Word or Office installed, you probably don't
have a spell checker. However there are several downloadable
freeware/shareware alternative spell checkers that work with
Outlook Express and Outlook. Since I have no personal experience
with any of these, I'll let someone else recommend one.

On the other hand, if a Microsoft Office component *is*
