Why will the spell check tool not work when using outlook
express. Seems to work fine in all other programs. Any
ideas?

Unsure about other programs but OE relies on MS Word's spell checker. If
that's not installed, no spell check. If it is and still no luck, re-post
and others may have ideas.

You realize of course that the spell check in OE works if
you have Microsoft Word installed. Otherwise, that is
strange and it should work.

There is no spell checker in OE. It relies on a 32-bit spell checker from
another program, such as Microsoft Word. There are also some very
inexpensive third party spell checkers downloadable from the internet -
Compubridge, for example.

Outlook Express, by default doesn't have a Spell checker
on its own and uses the spell checker installed along with
applications such as Microsoft Word or Works. As you have
mentioned that the Spell checker is working in Word and
Works, perform the following steps to resolve the issue.

1. Right-click Start button.

2. Select Explore.

3. Browse to the following folder in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

4. Delete CSAPI3T1.DLL (If not found continue to next
step)

5. Click Start and select Run.

6. Type MSConfig and press Enter.

7. Click the "Expand File..." button.

8. In the "Files to Restore" field, type CSAPI3T1.DLL .

9. In the Restore From field, type the following path:

C:\Windows\i386

10. In the Save File In field, type the following path:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

11. Click Expand.

12. Restart the system when prompted.

If the problem persists, download and install the
following two registry patches:

* USEng4OE.REG
* Spellfix.REG

To download USEng4OE.REG file, please visit the following
URL:

To download Spellfix.REG file, please visit the following

This should help.

i have OEM version of outlook express and no
spellchecker. i think OEM'a do not have spellchecker
installed. OEM's are limited in some places.

go to start->control panel->system and check the number
series in center of window. if it has -OEM- maybe that
is your answer.

.
Scott, you should be able to activate Spell Checking
from the Tools Pulldown Menu in the Create Mail mode. You
have to click it each time you want a spell check. The
best solution, however, is to shadow Tools (in the Inbox
mode), click Options, click the Spell Tab and check the
box to check spelling before sending. By shadowing I mean
to point at the Tools command but don't click it, like
pointing at All Programs without clicking to see the list
of all programs.
