spell check in MS Outlook Express

When usinmg Outlook Express the spell check feature does
not work. I went Tools and Options, but no Spelling
Options are shown. A search in Help said if MS Word is
not installed the Spelling option is not available. My
new machine came with MS Works installed. OE does not
seem to find the Word program. How do I fix this?

Hi - I believe you'd need to have MS Word installed for this to work but am
not sure.

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

Windows of any version does not come with a spellchecker, you need to
install an application like Office; Word; etc. to enable the spell checking
in XP. See the link below if you have a qualifying application but spell
checking is still disabled. There is also some links for free applications
that will enable spellchecking.

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you've just discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
certain specific other Microsoft applications, such as the Office
Suite, Word, or the Works _Suite_ (which includes Word, not the
regular Works). There are also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware
solutions available at any of the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:

If spell check for Outlook Express has stopped working,
possibly due to installing Office 98, try this to solve
this problem, obtain a copy of the missing file
csapi3t1.dll and place it in the folder "Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof".
