Speed up Application

Hi,

When you lauch an application like MS Word, close it, then launch it again,
the application opens up quickly.
How is this? Is the based on the size of memory system cache? Does Windows
XP allot a certain percentage based on memory size?

Here are the figures as it appear in my Windows Task Manager:

Physical Memory (K)

Total 523760
Available 188300
System Cache 174536

Will additional memory speed up lauching of applications because of bigger
System Cache (if this indeed speeds it up)?

Thank you much for any input :)

Yes it is because an amount of the application is in cache.
If you add more memory you will get a bigger cache and this will have the
same effect.
It will not make your applications open any quicker the first time you start
them.

Yes - when you close an app, the code is held in RAM 'just in case' so
that it is immediately available for reuse rather than needing to be
reloaded. If some other use comes along that needs RAM in the meantime,
it may be dropped out though
