speed of WD1200JB vs WD2500JB??

I

Ian Roberts

Hi

I currently have a WD1200JB (120Gb) as Master. I'm thinking of upgrading it
to the WD2500JB (250Gb).

Just wondered how the 2500 compares speedwise to the 1200. I havent been
able to find a direct comparison anywhere. Anyone know where there is one?
If its performance is worse then I'm open to suggestions of other
makes/models.

I'm after an increase in capacity but it must be equal or better in
perfomance to the 1200JB.

Thanks

Ian

According to www.wdc.com performance is identical for both drives.

Depends on which WD1200JB you have.

WD have a habit of changing models without changing the model name.
So your top of the line 120GB model may next be replaced by a smaller
size specimen (same platter size, less platters) of the later 250GB model.
In which case they are equally fast.

Benchmark your drive with HD Tach and then lookup the results
at www.storagereview.com for the 250GB model to compare.

The performance should be about the same. Faster get a Raptor or Hitachi
7K250.
