speed of USB HD?

In real life what is the experience of the speed of USB 2 external hard
drives compared to an internal IDE ATA100 drive? Is it a little slower like
an ATA66 or 33 drive? Or is it a lot slower like a CD drive?

its not much slower in the case of a 3.5 inch drive on
usb 2
the speed isnt really limited by the buswidth which is
half that of ata100
its more limited by the drive speed which rarely gets
above 35 megps
they arnt much slower unless you get a 2.5inch drive
version or laptop hdd they are a lot slower but still
much faster then even the fastest cd drives
