speech recognition works in publisher but not word or excel.

voice to text works in publisher, Outlook, Frontpage etc but not in Word or
Excel. I have ticked the drop down boxes and the Language bar is on the
desktop. I know that it is working because i have used it in other Programs
in the office suite.
