I heard you could specify with RegEdit that when the computer turns on it
will automattically login to an account that you specify, without habing to
type in the password. Please post how to do this and many thanks will be
added to you
Microsoft has a free "powertoy" TweakUI for Windows XP. Aside from allowing you to do
what you want to do, TweakUI has many other options to customize Windows XP for your
needs. I find TweakUI for Windows XP indispensable. I have seen some posts in this
group, where people write that they do not want to use TweakUI, mistakeningly thinking
that TweakUI loads at Startup. It does not load at Startup, it is just a very user
friendly interface for automatically changing Widows XP Registry entries without having to
know anything about the Registry. Such as in your case, telling Windows XP to boot to a
specific account to logon on boot. As I wrote, there are there are many other things that
TweakUI for Windows XP can customize for you, with its very user friendly interface.
Go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
On the right side of the page there will be links for downloads. Click on the TweakUI.exe
link and then opt to save the file to your hard drive. You can choose the folder where
you want the file saved. After the downloading has finished, go to the folder where the
downloaded file is, then double click on it to start the install. When TweakUI for
Windows XP has finished installing, click your Start button/All Programs, and there should
now be a folder named Powertoys For Windows XP with TweakUI in it. Left click on Tweak
UI. After TweakUI opens, in the left pane click on the + to the left of Logon to expand
the sub-entries on the list. Left click on Autologon. In the right pane click to put a
checkmark in the box to the left of: Log on automatically at system startup. Then type th
e user name of the account that you want to boot into. Then click the APPLY and OK
buttons at the bottom of the window. Then you are done. You might want to check out the
other things that TweakUI can do, and there are many. Of course there are alternatives
for just selecting which account to automatically logon to, but TweakUI makes this task,
and so many others VERY simple.
