speakers produce no sound

I just bought my computer and noticed that no sound are produced. Checked
everything (spsekers, sound card... ) and can't find what' s wrong . (Media
player reads the CD but no sound is played). No error messages are displayed.
 
The same happened with my computer and I have to install the codecs from my
motherboard cd. I hope this is helpfull to You
