spdif audio out problem to 5.1 speakers

I tried to hook my asus a7n8x deluxe-auy motherboard up to a a/v
receiver using the spdif coax. I am only able to get the front three
speakers to work. Any idea on getting the other two rear speakers
working? I went in to audio controls and turned it from stereo to
5.1 but think that has more to do with the other outputs and not
spdif?

Any help would be great.

On a side note my motherboard box says soundstorm/dolby digital
(optional) Not sure what that means? On my control panel I have an
nivida audio that when I double click a window crash screen for
sndstorm.exe opens up and tells me it had to shut down. Not sure
about that either.

Thanks

win98(se) OS?

I had some problems with win98SE and the nvidia mixer loading at
startup. There was some audio component in device manager missing
(plug-n-play driver or kernel streaming something or other) that
prevented the nvidia audio from being properly initialized, and the
nvidia mixer/control program would fail to load/execute. Lemme see if
I can find the thread, cuz I know I posted the solution.

Here is the thread where I posted my info:

if it's not win98(se), then nevermind, lol.

Have you set up the 5.1 as Dolby Digital 5.1?

The Soundstorm chip is special in that it can encode in full 5.1 and send it
down to your amp, so you should get the full 5.1 if it's configured
properly.

Is your amp reporting it is receiving Dolby Digital, or doesn't it show this
type of info?

About the crashing, Google suggested that it could be worthwhile either
rolling back or reinstalling the drivers
(http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic55424.html).
