Using Nero 5.5,
is it possible to span discs so that I can burn larger files?
 
The only way you could do that with Nero would be to use Winzip first to
split the file(s). However Winoncd is capable of spanning.

Someone mentioned Winzip for the job. That'll work. Also, many of the third
party backup programs will divvy up files into portions that will fit on
CDs. Whatever program you use to create the segments will be needed again
when you want to reassemble the pieces to restore the files.
