they are using whatever groups the infected machines have visited. its not
a group that is doing it. it is a virus that is on thousands of machines
sending itself to every address it can find on each machine.

Probably all. Hard to catch. Even if caught, will be copycats.

Chances are, they're getting them wherever they can. Newsgroups aren't
their only source. Any email you send or webpage you go to exposes your
address, and these turkeys get it. I got this stuff and I have always used
a fake address on NG's; they got it from these other sources. Only specific
Message Rules eliminated my getting it.

From what I have read, most of this spam is from outside United States
borders. To catch them probably will take international co-operation by ALL
countries; with the state our foreign relations are in, we have as much
chance with them as an ice cube has in HECK.

there are no 'harvesters' or 'idiots' behind those fake patches, except for
the guy that launched the first copy of the virus. those addresses are
found by the virus on infected user machines who have read these newsgroups.
so every idiot who fell for the social engineering of the virus message and
ran it then came here to ask for help is now sending you the virus.

While we're at it, let us not cause mass hysteria by perpetuating this lie!

Simply visiting a website DOES NOT expose your email address, unless the
website asks for it and you provide it.
