Spam overcoming black listing

I have recently noticed that a lot of spam is coming in on MailWasher
listed as "friend". How is it that some spam is able to avoid the
MailWasher blacklisting and how can I stop this happening, or at least
diminish it.

The user sets the "friend" list.
Blacklist is just that, a finite list. The user also determines what's on
that list.
100% filtering is still better done by a human, than a filter database.
Doesn't sound like you've been doing and monitoring any of the 3 things
above in mailwasher.

Not a Windows XP issue. Contact the auhtor of Mailwasher.

Spam black list are not 100% fool-proof. Do not only rely on them. You need
to set up your own additional black list where you can manage what you allow
thru.

Yes I have and up and until now it has more or less meant that when I
checked MailWasher "before" I downloaded the friendly mail to my email
client, I got very little to change so well had I set it up.
The point I was making was that the spammers "seem" to have found a way
around this and more of them are appearing as friends and I was just
trying to elicit some advice as the why this change had occurred, not to
get admonished about something I was not appearing to do.
However Jonny, thank you for taking the time to reply, it is
appreciated.

OK Steve, point taken but there is more off topic matters in this
newsgroup that is not admonished, at least my question was to do with IT
and yes, I am operating windows XP even if the question was not directly
about it, a little harsh don't you think? However, a polite thank you
for taking the time and trouble to "tell me off".

Thank you Yves, at least a polite and useful reply, thank you. However,
I have set up a black list and up to now it has meant that when I opened
MW before downloading my mail, more or less all my spam was clearly
marked as "possible" or "not to me" which seemed to catch them. However,
lately I have noticed that they are coming in as friends which under my
present setup had not happened before and my question was why suddenly
was this happening as though they had found a way to be under my
configuration of MW to arrive listed as "friend" which had not been so
prevalent before, "that" was my question.

Maybe you shouldn' put all of your hopes/desires for spam control into
MW????

SHIT HAPPENS DUDE.

Ain't nuttin' you can do to change that.

Get all kinds in this group. If there's someway of something to modify the
friend's list outside of MW Pro, I'd like to see this myself.

You might try resetting both friends and the blacklist. I did have trouble
with MW Pro after over a years use with blacklist. Doing so fixed the
problem, had to rebuild the database over again though.

That it might be for instance, too full. Mine certainly is, however, I
have approached MailWasher support and will if I may revert back with
their suggestions for your examination. Thank you so much for both
replys, I am now making progress.

Hey Derrick, I honestly didn't mean it that way. Sorry it was a curt
answer. Please forgive.

It's because MW is a piece of sh!t. Uninstall it. I don't think you need
MW to tell you you don't need to open an email that says "enlarge your
dick", do you? Think about it. What has MW flagged that you wouldn't
immediately recognize as spam with your brain?

Alas true and I probably should not have needed you to have to go to the
trouble to tell me, however that's life.
I use Turnpike as my email client and it has its own filtering system
which is excellent but complicated and I dare not ask on their NG
because they would tell me to refer to the excellent TP notes for
answers and they are not too easy to absorb.
As to MailWasher, I take your point but surely it saves a lot of initial
checking as when I open it, it has already marked the majority of the
spam, I therefore only need to check it and rarely need to amend it, at
least until recently when I seem to have a lot more new "friends" in my
life, hence my question.

Accepted and no offence taken, its just I subscribe to too many NG's,
(10), so I was probably taking an easy way out.
Thank you for your kind response.

What I do is have OE send emails that actually are addressed to my email
addresses into special folders, like Biz Inbox and Personal Inbox. That
way, most of the Spam goes into the Inbox and a Ctrl+A+Del gets rid of
them in one fell swoop.

Contrary to mailwasher being a piece of , foul language even disguised is
still foul language, it enables you to delete mail at the web server, it
bounces the email, so that the spammers think they have a dead email.

Since I started using Mailwasher I very rarely get a second spam from a
spammer

To answer the question, right click on the email follow the drop down menu.
Go to the friends list and remove the email, add them to the blacklisted.

Thanks for your kind response Derrick. I get in a hurry sometimes. I try
to avoid that but sometimes hit send anyway. Humans, bah!

I use MW, too and the delete at server is usefull.

Bouncing doesn't really work as intended for me. It verifies your
address as valid to them. The times I've chosen to bounce I just get
more spam.

I do, but it's an older version.

Should work, but like Malke says, there is no perfect software (nor
hardware, FTM).
