Spam Filters

Hi,
I have a friend who is getting unwelcome mail from 2 or 3 people. They
often use anonymous e-mail addresses to send inappropriate mail. We are
looking for a spam blocker and, preferably, a spam block which can help trace
back the anonymous e-mail sender. He is running Office 2003 and has the junk
mail filter on, but we are looking for something more robust. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Rich

Are you looking for something free or something to buy? I don't personally
know of any decent free personal spam filters for outlook, but Symantec has a
nice SPAM management suite for outlook, and so do most of the top vendors. A
trip to Best Buy or even Walmart should turn up something good. I don't
think any of them can track anonymous e-mail senders. If they are using a
fake address, all you will be able to tell is the sending domain, an IP
address of the originating server and maybe a name if your lucky. Other than
that, it takes some manual investigation to track anything down.

Thanks
Joe

We also use Outlook 2003 with the junk email filter, and have upgraded to
IHateSpam. Its probably the best spam blocker out there.

Try using server site spamfilters such as pinjo revealer etc, then your
spam can be reduced at the mailserver already

Joe, if your friend uses Outlook or Outlook Express I would recommend him Spam bully.

It fully integrates with mail client, has a nice and intuitive interface, it’s easy to use and very accurate. Also it provides detailed information about each email you receive – IP address, country, ISP info, also tells you why a message was or wasn’t blocked by the filter.

Your friend is lucky to only be getting unwelcome mail from 2 or 3 people.
Norton is a pain, plus they put [NORTON:SPAM] in the supbject line of
suspected spams whether you want them to or not (and you can't delete it if
it's not actually spam). I recently got SpamBayes (it's free and trainable)
and it's doing better than Norton ever did. SpamBayes junk filter is also
better than Outlook's...and easier to use.
